NYSABA Parent, Family, and Advocate is a bridge that brings families and professionals together.  Together we can access information, identify resources, and share stories that generate understanding.  It is also a medium for our self advocates, autistic individuals, and our consumers in general, to have a voice.  Our field needs to always know how we can do better!  Great things happen when talent is combined with compassion and understanding.

We did it!  The Governor signed!  Thank you to all of our families for their support.  You are amazing!!!
Governor Hochul has until 12/31/21 to sign or veto the bill A3523-A, to expand the scope of practice for behavior analysts to more closely align their scope of practice to all the other states in the US.   This is critical for our families!

Know that you are a STAR.....................

I have included information from my own journey and the journey of other families into this compilation of the things we wish someone told us beforehand. It is my hope that by doing so, you feel like you have the information necessary to ask good questions, be confident in your role, avoid common pitfalls, and create a smooth sailing process. Without the preparatory information that is very often never given to a parent, we don’t know the questions to ask. What can be worse is that we start new behavior plans feeling unprepared. Collectively we need to change that. So please remember me after you are done reading through our website and send me your thoughts so that I can add them to my growing list of parent feedback regarding this journey of teaching our kids.
