LEGISLATIVE ACTION ALERT - NYSABA
Thank you again for your interest in helping to lift the scope restriction on licensed behavior analysts and certified behavior analyst assistants in New York so that individuals who are not diagnosed with autism can access ABA services!
We are in Albany lobbying TODAY!
We need your help now. Legislative sessions are held only through June, so we are in a time-sensitive window with respect to contacting individuals in the assembly and senate who may be supportive to our cause.
It’s critical that we have constituents from ALL OVER NEW YORK contacting their representatives.
As soon as possible, we need you to:
1. Write your representatives in the assembly and in the senate.
You can use our Template letter. It is important that you personalize it.
For information on how to tailor your letter, click on the link below that best describes your interest:

3. Make an appointment to meet with your representatives.
You can use the script below tailoring it with your own information.
Script:
"Good morning Senator/Assemblyman or Assemblywoman ______. My name is ______ and I live in your district. I am calling today because individuals with disorders other than autism cannot get behavior analytic services because of the scope restriction placed on licensed behavior analysts. The current law only allows them to work with individuals diagnosed with autism. (ADD PERSONAL INFORMATION HERE, BUT KEEP THE FOCUS ON THE INACCESSIBILITY OF SERVICES FOR MANY INDIVIDUALS-DISCRIMINATION).
Senator Ritchie (Bill number S 4599) and Assemblywoman Peoples-Stokes (Bill number A7632) are sponsoring our bill to remove the scope restriction and we need your help. Will you support/co-sponsor bill number [S 4599 or A 7632] to lift the scope restriction so that my family member can get the services that they have a right to and very much need?"
***Do remain calm, be polite. Do not bully or demand.
***If the person you speak with agrees to support the bill, thank him/her, and follow up your call with a hand written thank you note.
See Do's and Don'ts for more important guidelines.
***Let us know what response you got NYSABAlegislative@gmail.com
